CHERI IBES

SECLUSION, 2021. Japanese paper, door hardware.

Seclusion is a small-scale sculpture that was part of a solo exhibition entitled “House Arrest” presented in 2021 at FreeForm Art Space in Santa Fe, NM. The exhibition reflected on the feelings of isolation experienced during the pandemic.

Sculptures were made of deconstructed furniture, lamps, tables and chairs that were reconfigured as unfamiliar structures standing on the floor or leaning against a wall with a sense of stoicism and fragility. Technology took the form of sculptures made of incongruous elements: cords, connectors and controls chaotically interconnected. Paintings depicted existential dilemmas of estrangement and distance. Familiar homey objects were reconstructed as vaguely familiar fragments alluding to changed perspectives on home.
